  1. Born in 1948 at Wadakkancherry, Thrissur District, Kerala. Father late T.P. DamodaranNair. Hailing from a business family. Passed Chartered Accountancy Final Examination in 1976.
  2. Educational Qualification: B.Com, FCA. He has also been conferred the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph. D) by The Open International University, Colombo, Sri Lanka, for his Thesis on ‘Management of Non-Performing Assets of Banks’.

  4. Practicing Chartered Accountant. Managing Partner VENUGOPALAN & ASSOCIATES, Chartered Accountants, Thrissur, since 2004. After 10 years in employment he started practice in 1987 as partner of Warrier & Warrier , Chartered Accountants.
  5. Ex-Director: CATHOLIC SYRIAN BANK LTD., THRISSUR (1997 to 2004). Formerly Reserve Bank Nominee Additional Director for three years from 1993 – 1996 in the same bank. He was the Chairman of the Audit Committee of the bank for 7 years from 1997.As chairman of the Audit Committee he could contribute substantially for the improvement of the internal control and auditing system of the bank
  6. Work Experience: Dr. CA.V Venugopalan has got rich and vast experience in the following fields/areas:
    • Conduct of Statutory Central Audit of banks and Government Companies;
    • Conduct of Management Audit, Concurrent, Revenue/Stock audit of banks;
    • Project report preparation; work-study and consultancy for revival of sick units.

    • Handling audit of multi-national companies (including foreign companies) & companies following Ind AS.
  7. Senior Faculty Member:In the panel of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, Southern India Regional Council for 12 years from 1989. Presented papers on Bank Audit in more than150 Chartered Accountants Seminars organized by various branches of the Institute through out South India.
    He has also presented paper at the seminar of Central Statutory Auditors of Banks organized by The Regional Council of Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, at Chennai.
    He was co-speaker at Teleconferencing Programme (live) on “Bank Audit” organized by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India through ‘Doordarshan’ at New Delhi during 2006, 2009 and 2010
  8. Author of Books/Writer:
    1. BANK BRANCH AUDIT (background material) published by the CPE Committee of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi in March 2004, (a 300-page book), which was the official reference guide to the Chartered Accountants in the country.
    2. APPROACH TO AUDIT OF BANKS AND VERIFICATION OF NPA’S ( published Sixth edition in 2003) – A detail guidance on practical aspects of bank audit and assessment of NPA in banks.
    3. Written several articles in professional journals, C.A. Institute Journal, leading newspapers and journals on subjects connected with finance, auditing , banking and Indian Economy. He has also handled a bimonthly column in ‘Malayala Manorama’ a leading newspaper for one year on the topic of ‘Investments and Savings’.
    4. He is a motivational speaker and addressed students at several students conferences.

Conferences training programme attended: He has attended several conferences and training programs organized by NIBM, Pune, Indian Bank Association and Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, New Delhi which includes Banks Audit Committee Chairmen’s’ Conferences, Seminars on Corporate Governance, Refresher Course on Risk Management, Asset Liability Management, Corporate Debt Restructuring etc.

Achievement of CA.(Dr) V. Venugopal in the profession

  1. The only CA from Kerala who was the speaker in more than 150 mandatory bank audit seminars organized by ICAI throughout South India for 12 years continuously from 1989 to 2001.
  2. Author of the book titled “Background Material on Bank Branch Audit” published by The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (CPE Committee) during 2004, which was the official reference guide for CA’s who conduct Bank Branch Audit.
  3. He was the first author to write a book on verification of Non –Performing Assets in Banks when RBI introduced the prudential guidelines on NPA. 6th edition of the book was released in 2003.
  4. The only CA from Kerala who got the opportunity to address the Chartered Accountants in the country through teleconference from Delhi Doordarshan on the topic “ Bank Branch Audit” for 3 years.
  5. He got the rare recognition to represent Reserve Bank of India as Additional Director in CSB bank Ltd from 1993 to 1996. As recognition of his contribution he was again inducted to the bank as Elected Director and he continued for 7 years, from 1997 to 2004.
